A Heartwarming Holiday Event for Recently Discharged UCSF Families

The Music Therapy team at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco teamed up with the San Francisco Symphony for our 2nd concert for recently discharged families. On December 14, recently discharged patients and their loved ones were invited to attend the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra’s rehearsal of Peter and the Wolf.  To add an extra touch of excitement, the concert was narrated by none other than Josh Dela Cruz, the host of Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues & You. The performance ended with a festive holiday sing-along, spreading joy and holiday spirit throughout Davies Symphony Hall.

The event offered much more than just a concert. Families had the opportunity to explore an instrument petting zoo, where children could interact with various musical instruments.  In addition, accommodations included wheelchair-accessible seating, quiet spaces, and sensory-friendly, low-traffic areas specifically designed to support immunocompromised children and those with sensory sensitivities.

This meaningful collaboration between UCSF’s Music Therapy team and the San Francisco Symphony provided patients and their families with a joyful reprieve and the chance to celebrate the season together through music, connection, and creativity. It was truly an unforgettable day filled with holiday cheer and heartwarming moments.
